About This Project

The brief for this project was set by Demand which is a UK charity which are dedicated to helping people with disabilities that require bespoke equipment to help them with their everyday lives.

We identified a need for low cost prosthetics due to commercial arms/hands costing between £30-100k, and as a result we aimed to build a complete hand/arm prosthetic for under £50. The 3 week project resulted in a complete working prototype which was 3D printed and fitted with servos to actuate the servos and controlled using existing muscles with EMG sensors that utilised the signal from the muscles in the upper arm for complete dexterity and control.
